Dr. Nicholas Ruana is a board-certified general dentist in Colorado Springs with advanced postgraduate training, a Master of Oral Biology, and more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience across military and civilian dentistry. Dr. Ruana is board-certified by the American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD), a distinction relatively few general dentists pursue. He has also earned a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), presented at the organization’s national convocation. Fewer than 1 in 10 general dentists hold this Fellowship.

Dr. Ruana earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno, before completing his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.
He went on to complete a highly competitive two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2) residency through the Uniformed Services University Postgraduate Dental College, where he also earned a Master of Oral Biology (MS).
That residency provided extensive surgical, implant, endodontic, and comprehensive treatment-planning training well beyond dental school.
Military Leadership & Service
Dr. Ruana served more than ten years as an Army dentist, practicing across the United States, Europe, Hawaii, and the Middle East.
His leadership and clinical roles included:
- Command Dentist – Kuwait
- Comprehensive Dentist & AEGD-1 Assistant Director – Fort Carson, Colorado
- Comprehensive Dental Resident (AEGD-2) – Schofield Barracks, Hawaii
- General Dentist – Italy, Kuwait, and Fort Bragg
In addition to treating service members and their families, he mentored junior dentists and helped oversee postgraduate training programs.
His service earned several honors, including:
