Dr. Nicholas Ruana is a board-certified general dentist with advanced postgraduate training, a Master of Oral Biology degree, and over a decade of clinical and leadership experience in both military and civilian dentistry. His background combines comprehensive family care with advanced surgical and restorative expertise.
Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Ruana earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno before completing his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.
He went on to complete a highly competitive two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2) residency through the Uniformed Services University Postgraduate Dental College, where he also earned a Master of Oral Biology (MS) degree.
This advanced residency program provided extensive surgical, implant, endodontic, and comprehensive treatment planning training well beyond traditional dental school education.
Dr. Ruana is board-certified by the American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD) — a distinction achieved by only a small percentage of practicing general dentists nationwide. He is also fellowship-eligible with the Academy of General Dentistry, reflecting his commitment to continued excellence and lifelong learning.
Military Leadership & Service
Dr. Ruana served more than ten years as an Army dentist, practicing across the United States, Europe, Hawaii, and the Middle East.
His leadership roles included:
- Command Dentist – Kuwait
- Comprehensive Dentist & AEGD-1 Assistant Director – Fort Carson, Colorado
- Comprehensive Dental Resident (AEGD-2) – Schofield Barracks, Hawaii
- General Dentist – Italy, Kuwait, and Fort Bragg
In addition to providing advanced clinical care to service members and their families, Dr. Ruana mentored junior dentists and helped oversee postgraduate training programs.
He has been recognized for his service with multiple military honors, including:
- Meritorious Service Medal
- Army Commendation Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters)
- Army Achievement Medal
