Colorado Springs, CO – June 30, 2021. The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), a professional association of more than 40,000 general dentists who are dedicated to professional excellence through the pursuit of continuing education, is pleased to announce that Dr Thomas Jennings, DDS, MAGD, has earned the 2021 Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition for his commitment to lifelong learning, volunteering his services to communities in need, mentoring associates and new dentists, and participating in organized dentistry. Dr. Jennings was honored during a special convocation ceremony held in Austin, Texas on June 12, 2021 at AGD’s Annual Scientific Session.
The Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition (LLSR) is presented only to AGD members who have gone above and beyond earning the association’s highest honor of Mastership. To accomplish this recognition, Dr. Jennings completed at least 1,600 hours of continuing dental education in 16 different dental disciplines. In addition, recipients must complete at least 100 hours of dental-related community/volunteer service.
“Recipients of AGD’s Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition truly exemplify leadership, perseverance and embrace the AGD’s core principles and ideals,” says AGD President Bruce Cassis, DDS, MAGD. “Dr. Jennings is to be commended for his commitment to dentistry. This award symbolizes lifelong learning, leadership, mentorship and the drive for excellence in dentistry.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there are an estimated 198,517 general dentists who are employed directly in the field of dentistry. A general dentist is the primary care provider for patients of all ages and is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management, and overall coordination of services related to patients’ oral health needs.
“Included as the greatest gifts I have been given along the way of my professional journey are an amazing and gracious collection of educators, mentors, colleagues, clergy, team members, family, and patients,” says Dr. Jennings. “They are truly the most wonderfully gifted, talented, committed, and caring group that one could imagine. The Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Award that I have recently received from the Academy of General Dentistry is only a measure of the unselfish investment they have made in me, and I am so humbly grateful. Thanks to you all, and I look forward to working with and serving you for many years to come. It’s a “lifelong” award, but I’m not done yet!”
Since its inception in 2005, only 391 of the AGD’s 40,000 members have received the prestigious Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition.
